Lake Mary Ronan is a beautiful place in the wintertime too! Sheltered by mountains and trees, with the lake fully frozen over, ice fishing is a pleasure in the sun, up out of the fog often engulfing Flathead Lake. There are ice fishing tournaments, snowmobile and motorcycle racing on the ice, not to mention parties and live music at the nearby Mountain Meadows Resort (the year round local hangout at the Lake).

Polson, with its local culture, restaurants, bars and shopping is on the south end of Flathead Lake, about a 40 minute drive. Or there's Lakeside, 25 minutes to the north along Flathead Lake, for "local" grocery shopping, banking, places to eat and drink, not to mention the most fun, family friendly and comparatively inexpensive Blacktail Mountain Ski Area. Kalispell, at the top of Flathead Lake, is about 40 minutes away, and is home to all the big box stores like Costco and Walmart, and is the location of Glacier Park International Airport. Whitefish, just 15 minutes north of Kalispell, with its more upscale restaurants and shopping, is home to Whitefish Mountain Resort (formerly Big Mountain), a ski resort with summer activities too like nature walks, mountain biking, etc.
Northwest Montana truly is the best of "both" worlds: wilderness and civilization!
